Are You Doing What It Takes To Land The Job?

By Arielle Edwards on May 22, 2012

Are you a college student in desperate need of finding a job? Have you been on what feels like a million job interviews, yet not landed a single one? You may have been making some major mistakes that you weren’t aware of.

First, make sure you are looking at a credible sources. Newspapers, or online listings can be a great start to find what places are hiring. However, I suggest going into the business to pick up an application and filing it out there. Remember to bring a resume so that you can attach it and turn it all in together. Another thing to keep in mind is your style. You want to appear as a professional businessperson, even when you are just handing your application into the manager. This will show them that you are serious about obtaining a job.

With your resume you want to make sure to include all of your job history and the duties you were given while there. Also, make sure to include any relevant experience along with the year it was accomplished.

For example, if you were in an honor society your junior year of college, make sure to list it. Add anything that you think will be relevant and make sure to spell check. There is nothing worse than an employer noticing how careless you have been with something as important as your resume.

When turning in your resume, always ask for a manager so that you can make sure they get it personally. If you still haven’t heard from the business within a week, call and check up to see if they have looked over your resume.

When applying for a job, make sure to know about the business. If it is a clothing store, be familiar with the brands of clothing. Keep in mind that each business tends to look for a person with various traits such as a person who is goal oriented, dependable and someone who has a positive attitude.
