The business world today is entering an age of booming startups, and the trend does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. Venture capitalists are pouring billions of dollars into tech-forward companies and the promise they hold for the future. Startups are being called the “next big thing” and some have already started bringing in revenue beyond what their creators may have ever thought possible.

These 10 companies have caught my attention, along with the attention of many others. They define what it means to be successful from the ground up and have all recently entered the billion-dollar value club.

10. Tango

Tango was founded in 2009 by two guys who wanted to stay connected with their families overseas. Together, they created an app that launched in 2010 that has since become a cross platform voice call, messaging and video enabled means of connecting.

9. Mobileye

Mobileye, a tech company focused on software algorithms and applications, has created ways of visually processing the roadway to make it easier for drivers to be aware of conditions on the road. As the push towards self-automated cars becomes a real concept, services such as these are crucial in the world of car intelligence.

8. Stripe

Stripe is a startup that handles online payments in a smart and efficient way, proving to be a tough competitor to PayPal. They focus their energy on clean and frictionless codes and APIs instead of the finance beyond transactions. Stripe has been processing billions of dollars a year for companies of all kinds and sizes.

7. Bloom Energy

Based with roots in NASA’s Mars program, Bloom Energy is a startup making generation power systems available from practically anywhere with the advances they are making in material science. Bloom Energy is producing clean, reliable and affordable power in an effort to reach a state of energy independence.

6. Uber

In 2009, Uber was launched to make traveling around in cities much quicker and safer. Uber connects riders with drivers through various apps to make city life more accessible. Today, Uber has integrated its technologies into over 70 cities and plan on continually growing.

5. Spotify

In recent years, Spotify has become a world leader in the music sharing platform, competing with companies such as Apple and Pandora. The personalization of Spotify gives its users the opportunity to organize millions of songs into a more specialized list. As they would say: soundtrack your life.

4. DropBox

Founded in 2007, Dropbox is a free service that lets you save and share photos, docs and videos and pull them up from multiple devices at any time. Sharing information with the world has never been so easy with the creation of Dropbox. Today there are over 300 million Dropbox users, and the numbers are only growing.

3. Snapchat

Snapchat was an idea created by two Stanford college students in 2011. With the ability to send and receive “snaps” for designated lengths of time and to a specified list of people, it was not long before Snapchat became a hit. Needless to say, the app grew exponentially in popularity. In May 2014, Snapchat stated that users were sending 700 million photos and videos a day.

2. Eventbrite

Eventbrite is a company that helps bring people the access they need to find and attend events that suit their interests and passions. Since 2008, they have been building technologies that facilitate these gatherings and the channels through which to find them. The events range in style and focus area, so there is a little something for everyone.
